It's spiritually Japanese. Yume Miru Kusuri is my favorite Japanese one it has such a weird vibe, but obv I can't recommend it to anyone. Also I know it's very normie but Doki Doki is pretty good despite not being Japanese too.

i want to immerse myself in an 80+ hour visual novel that's mostly banal harem nonsense but as time goes on it becomes increasingly sad and wistful because everyone gets old and moves on with their lives

I'm really enjoying Classroom of the Elite. The premise is sort of silly, but the plot moves like a court drama and quickly legitimizes its quirks. I unironically thought it was going to be vaguely melodramatic slice of life, but it's full of schemes, entertaining drama, and surprisingly well-executed moments. I've found myself consistently caught off-guard.

I'm only halfway through the second season right now, but I'll probably finish the whole thing within the week. So far, I recommend!
