my top 5 favorite movies of all time:

1. Maborosi (1995)
kansai dialect movie that explores theodicy and the irrationality of tragedy through long takes and staring out into the ocean

2. Cure (1997)
movie recommended to me by an old guy while i was in japan. surreal psychological thriller that made me regret not watching more movies

3. August in the Water (1995)
hypnotic vaporwave teen movie cosmic horror about turning into rocks

4. The End of Evangelion (1997)
doesn't need an explanation and i hope everyone has already seen this

5. Vive l'amour (1994)
a movie about crushing and overwhelming loneliness/isolation. warning: the protagonist is a faggot.

btw maborosi and vive l'amour are both very slow and might be difficult/"boring" if that's not your thing.
